Why we design the 14-ton forestry timber trailer as a Tandem-axle trailer?
① A dual-axle configuration supports a 14-ton rated load. With a single-axle setup, capacity is limited by the maximum load rating of the individual axle; achieving a 14-ton rating would require ultra-heavy-duty axles and extra-wide tires.
In contrast, a dual-axle setup distributes the total load across two axles, effectively halving the load per axle. This results in more moderate stress on the chassis main beams, reducing the risk of bending or weld cracking-making it ideal for long-term, heavy-duty log transport.
②Accommodating the weight of the truck-mounted crane and eccentric log loads: This trailer is equipped with an integrated forestry crane, which adds significant dead weight.
When loading logs, the center of gravity of the log stack can easily shift laterally or longitudinally.
A single-axle setup offers only one line of support, making it highly susceptible to tire overloading on one side due to eccentric loads;
A dual-axle setup provides two sets of support points (front and rear), offering superior resistance to eccentric loading.
③Tandem-axle trailer: Lower ground pressure prevents getting stuck in forest terrain characterized by muddy soil, swampy areas, or soft ground following rain.
With the same load, the weight is distributed across four tires on the tandem axles, resulting in significantly lower ground pressure compared to a single-axle setup, making it less likely to sink into the mud.
In contrast, a single-axle configuration exerts excessive pressure, making the vehicle highly prone to slipping or sinking in damp forest terrain.
④Tandem-axle trailers feature a support base extending from front to rear, significantly suppressing fishtailing and body roll.
The dual-axle configuration provides a longer wheelbase support base, making the trailer less prone to swaying during high-speed travel or cornering on descents;
In contrast, single-axle trailers have a concentrated support point, making them more susceptible to rolling over during sharp turns while heavily loaded.
